This race could not happen without the generous support of the volunteers. The race requires a variety of skills and commitments from numerous dedicated volunteers in order to take place.
On course positions require avalanche training and volunteers must have their own beacon, shovel and probe. You must be on skis (no motorized vehicles) and be able to transport yourself in/out of the back country unassisted. Medical training or EMT qualifications are preferred.
Volunteers at gear check on Thursday and Friday can sign up for full or half day positions to help racers go through the check-in process. The race also has a film night on Thursday and on-snow demo on Friday which also need volunteers. Those interested in working Friday night at the start will help with loading racer bags, hanging/taking down banners, assisting in SPOT distribution, beacon checks and final gear checks. Volunteers available to get themselves to Aspen are needed at the Finish area all day Saturday, as well as the awards party Saturday evening.

The Grand Traverse Race Committee thanks all the dedicated volunteers who help make each year’s race a huge success! All volunteers will be invited to attend the post-race Volunteer Appreciation party held the week following the race in Crested Butte. Volunteers who attend will be entered into an amazing raffle of prizes donated by sponsors.
