NEW THIS YEAR… Local photographer and journalist, Kevin Krill is among the snow safety team at Friend’s Hut. Kevin arrived via the heli drop today while the rest of the team hiked in from Crested Butte. Attached are Kevin’s photos from the flight and his report. We’ll be posting these daily so racers and fans can learn first hand what the snow safety team is observing.
15th Annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse
“Embedded Report” from the Friends Hut

PM Weather: Just before NOON on Monday – Windy, 38 degrees, clear
Morning Photo: 3 attached
Notes:
Arrived successfully in the chopper with Doug as pilot. A bit breezy on the ride especially coming over Pearl Pass but incredibly cool to fly up and over from Aspen. Doug set down within a couple hundred feet from the Hut to the excitement of the folks at the Friends Hut. Greeted by smiles and offers to help shuttle the gear up to the Hut; Mark, Tyler, Sebastian, Chris and Sarah were pretty excited; so was I. They have left and I’m setting up my post for Embedded work.
The breeze has kicked up a few notches to downright windy as the forecast predicted. However the sun is out making for a pleasant spring day. I’m off to see where the Team is at on their hike up from the Brush Creek trailhead on the Crested Butte side.
Signing off until this evening when the Team has arrived and settled in.
Kevin, Embedded on the Grand Traverse.
